Location  Anuradhapura District, North Central Province, Sri Lanka.

Remains of four phases of constructions from the first century B.C. have been discovered at this Refectory, which is also mentioned in the tenth century Abhayagiriya inscription of King Kassapa V (914-923 A.D.) Chinese Monk Fa-hien in the fifth century A.D. mentions that 5000 ,omks resided at Abhayagiriya. The stone canoe of 19 m in length exceeds the capacity of 5000 alms bowls. A sun-dial, kitchen, store- rooms and underground conduits supplying water to the building are also visible.
